Management and Future of Hyperprolific Sows

Thomas Sønderby Bruun completed his M.Sc in Animal Science at University of Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2005. The first five years thereafter he worked as a pig production consultant with focus on sow management, nutrition and applied reproduction. Since 2010, he has been working at SEGES Innovation where his research has focused on sow and gilt nutrition. Thomas’ main areas of research include amino acid and energy requirements of hyper-prolific gestating and lactating sows, farrowing performance, milk production, stomach health and feeding of rearing gilts with focus on both bone development, litter size and longevity. Thomas work closely together with University of Copenhagen and Aarhus University in projects and publications

Dr. Carine Vier
Lactational Feed Efficiency: Why Should We Talk About it?

Carine Vier is a Nutrition Specialist for PIC, the porcine division of Genus PLC. Since 2019, she has worked closely with producers across the Americas to deliver evidence-based nutritional recommendations and technical support, helping customers realize the full genetic potential of PIC pigs. Her work integrates applied swine nutrition with data analytics to drive measurable improvements in performance, robustness, and profitability.
In recent years, Carine has been involved in an extensive number of research trials involving boars, developing gilts, gestating and lactating sows, and wean-to-finish pigs, conducted in collaboration with leading universities and industry partners worldwide.
Originally from Brazil, Carine earned her D.V.M. from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in 2016 and completed her Ph.D. in Applied Swine Nutrition and Statistics at Kansas State University in 2019. She is currently based in Kansas City, Missouri.
