Thomas Sønderby Bruun, M.Sc
Management and Future of Hyperprolific Sows
Thomas Sønderby Bruun completed his M.Sc in Animal Science at University of Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2005. The first five years thereafter he worked as a pig production consultant with focus on sow management, nutrition and applied reproduction. Since 2010, he has been working at SEGES Innovation where his research has focused on sow and gilt nutrition. Thomas’ main areas of research include amino acid and energy requirements of hyper-prolific gestating and lactating sows, farrowing performance, milk production, stomach health and feeding of rearing gilts with focus on both bone development, litter size and longevity. Thomas work closely together with University of Copenhagen and Aarhus University in projects and publications
Dr. Carine Vier
Lactational Feed Efficiency: Why Should We Talk About it?
Carine Vier is a Nutrition Specialist for PIC, the porcine division of Genus PLC. Since 2019, she has worked closely with producers across the Americas to deliver evidence-based nutritional recommendations and technical support, helping customers realize the full genetic potential of PIC pigs. Her work integrates applied swine nutrition with data analytics to drive measurable improvements in performance, robustness, and profitability.
In recent years, Carine has been involved in an extensive number of research trials involving boars, developing gilts, gestating and lactating sows, and wean-to-finish pigs, conducted in collaboration with leading universities and industry partners worldwide.
Originally from Brazil, Carine earned her D.V.M. from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in 2016 and completed her Ph.D. in Applied Swine Nutrition and Statistics at Kansas State University in 2019. She is currently based in Kansas City, Missouri.

Dr. Hyatt Frobose serves as the USA Commercial Director and Swine Nutritionist for JYGA Technologies. Hyatt specializes in assisting swine producers with group-housing solutions and nutritional programs to optimize performance and welfare of gestating and lactating sows in commercial environments.

Rodrigo Lima is an accomplished Global Nutrition Specialist with extensive expertise in animal nutrition and strategic feed management.
With professional experience as a Nutritionist for key accounts in Brazil at a leading global feeding company, Rodrigo developed tailored nutritional programs that optimized animal performance and production efficiency. Currently, at Topigs Norsvin, he leads as a Global Nutrition Specialist, driving strategic projects focused on feeding management and providing expert guidance to clients worldwide.
Dr. Douglas Cook
The Business Case for Multiple Diets on Modern Sow Farms
Dr. Cook earned his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in animal science and swine nutrition from Iowa State University, and his M.S. degree in growth and developmental biology from Michigan State University. Over the past 27 years, he has led a Swine Nutrition Research program, conducting more than 1,000 trials focused on optimizing nutrition and management practices in swine production, and has provided extensive technical support to swine producers and feed mills.

Devin Goehring is a Swine Nutritionist with United Animal Health. He received his B.S. (2011) and M.S. (2013) from Kansas State University. His current responsibilities include technical service for hog producers as well as being involved in leading the finishing pig research conducted at United Animal Health’s five finisher research facilities.
